2011 Compost Site Operating Hours

The newly constructed joint East Donegal Township - Mount Joy Borough composite site is located on South Jacob Street.  To reach the site turn onto South Barbara Street, turn left onto Donegal Street, and then turn right onto S. Jacob, and follow to the site.

Checks for Refuse and Recycling (green bill) are to be made to: East Donegal Township Refuse and Recycling Account. Write your account number and bill you are paying on your check (example: #312/trash).

• Trash Day is Thursday. Please place trash curbside Wednesday evening.
• There is a three (3) bag container limit, each container can be no more than 32 gallons and can weigh no more than 30 lbs.
• Brown Kraft bags are for leaf pickup in the FALL, they are not to be used for trash. Leaves are picked up on designated dates.
• Tags may be purchased at the Township building for extra trash. The tags are $1.25 each.
• Oversized items require a $4.00 red tag.
• Appliance/Tire pickup is twice each year. $12.00 per appliance. $2.25 per tire. $2.25 per rim.
• Grass tags are $1.25 each. Grass is collected separately from trash on designated dates. Grass goes in Brown Kraft bags, and must be tagged. There is a 30 lb weight limit. When the brown Kraft bags are used in the fall for leaves during scheduled leaf pickups there is no charge.
• Recycling is mandatory in the Township. Recycling bins are available at the Township building.
• There are ordinances for: burning, weeds, snow removal, abandoned vehicles, etc. Please call the Township Office at (717) 426-3167 with questions.

Items we cannot accept in recycling containers:

• Aluminum foil, pie plates, siding, etc.
• Books, magazines, phone books or junk mail
• Ceramics
• Cookware (pots & pans), china, cups or bowls
• Clothing hangers
• Light bulbs, light fixtures, flourescent bulbs
• Plastic bags of any kind. Do not put newspapers in plastic bags.
• Scrap metal of any kind
• Cereal boxes, pizza boxes, wax-coated boxes. NO BOXES.
• Window glass, plate glass, mirrors,eye glasses, or broken glass
• Yard waste (tree limbs, leaves, grass, plants, etc.). Watch for special collection days.
• Plastic flower pots, buckets, yogurt containers, etc
• Auto parts
• Paint cans
• No hypodermic needles. Please contact your local pharmacy for a "sharps container" and disposal instructions.
